Healthy Strong Nails

Healthy Strong Nails

Take some time out and take a good look at your nails. Do they look healthy? Are they strong? Or are you noticing discoloration or patches? Or do your nails get chipped easily? If yes, then your nails are unhealthy.

Nails are basically made of a protein called keratin. An unbalanced diet is the basic cause of this. Also if you have calcium deficiency then you will observe white patches over your nails.

Here are some tips to take care of your nails:

1) Keep your nails as much hydrated as possible. Keep a small can of petroleum jelly at hand all the time. Whenever you remember, rub some at your fingernails and toenails. Be sure that you are moistening the cuticle as well. Some other options are castor oil, olive oil, etc.

2) Wear gloves to protect your nails whenever you are washing dishes or cleaning. Excessive exposure to water can actually make your nails dry and brittle.

3) To avoid ingrown toenails, trim them directly straight across the top. Also occasionally push back your cuticles gently with a ear bud at a 45 degree angle. This induces nail growth.

4) You can take vitamin b supplements to make nails strong. Also increase your daily calcium intake.

5) Avoid nail polishes which contain acetone or formaldehyde.

6) Wear cotton socks and keep feet dry.

Follow these simple steps and you will notice a change very soon.
