Home Remedy for Dry Skin

Dry skin is one of four skin types;
the other three are normal, oily and
combination. But it is dry skin that
is most prone to premature aging
and winkles. One reason wrinkles
and deep lines form as a person
gets older is because the skin
becomes dryer. To combat dry skin
that may also be rough, flaky or
chapped, use a moisturizer. While
there are plenty of body lotions on
the market, there are also home
remedies for dry skin, which
contain fewer chemicals that may
irritate already sensitive skin

Using Cocoa Butter
----------------------------
Cocoa butter is a natural
moisturizer that is very effective in
hydrating the skin. One main
advantage of cocoa butter is that is
penetrated deeply into the skin
layers, while most oils and lotions
only lubricate the top layer of the
skin or the epidermis. Cocoa butter
is made from the fat of the cocoa
bean. It is often recommended by
holistic healers to treat stretch
marks. These marks appear on the
surface of the skin but instead are
formed in the dermis or middle
layer. Cocoa butter contains vitamin
E oil, which is an antioxidant. This
gives the butter a natural
preservative so it stays fresh for up
to a year. Cocoa butter is also
inexpensive. Apply the cocoa butter
to dry skin once or twice a day for
best results.

Using Vitamin E Oil
-------------------------
Vitamin E oil is often used to treat a
variety of scars. It is a natural
moisturizer that is safe to use on
the body. You can get the oil in a
few ways: puncture a vitamin E oil
capsule or buy a bottle of vitamin E
oil. When purchasing a bottle make
certain it is natural vitamin E and
not synthetic vitamin E. The
National Institute of Health reports
that the natural vitamin E oil is far
more potent. Apply the oil and
massage in once or twice a day.

Using Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-----------------------------------
The book "Secret Food Cures" by
Joan Wilen and Lydia Wilen, suggests
using olive oil as a moisturizer.
According to the authors the olive
oil is useful for moisturizing rough,
dry and chapped skin. Because of
its texture it is best to apply a very
thin layer of the oil to dry areas
once or twice a day. Massage in and
leave on overnight.

Using Essential Oils
-------------------------
Essential oils are made from natural
substances such as flower, fruits
and herbs. With essential oil you
can add a few drops to your bath
water for a soothing, moisturizing
soak. You can also apply the
essential oil directly to your skin. A
few to try are lavender oil, rose oil,
rosemary oil and lemon balm oil.
Choose the oil according to the
smell that is most appealing to you.
If you like the scent, you will be
more likely to remember to use it as
a moisturizer.
